May 2011 Livin' in Alassskkkkaa!

So it is OFFICIAL! Me and my new hubby, Skyler VanSweden, are living in Alaska for the summer and it has been great!! It is gorgeous up here, I just don't know how I'm going to get Sky to move back home! He's told me more than once, "Hil, I could live here!" with that tone of it being the perfect place... Well, NOT happening!! A: TOO far from home... B: The crazy winters of -20 and darkness all day and all night=MORE than dreadful... and C: I don't love it THAT much!! hahaha
I can handle the summers with a huge smile but winters? No way. Don't worry, it would never happen, Sky just likes to pretend its a possibility.

Anyways, this weekend was a lot of fun. I've had a ton of fun getting to know all the wives and children since the husbands are gone from 12 to 10 or 11 pm, we have a lot of time to hang out. Friday night, us "single" wives as we call ourselves (because we don't have any children) went out on the town for a little window shopping. We found some really cute stuff...

and some really not so cute stuff, but fun!

Saturday was our excursion with all the wives and kids. We decided we would go to the Conservation Center were they protect wildlife that has either been injured or abandoned at a young age. It was an hour drive which was absolutely beautiful!!

There were tiny waterfalls coming down the mountain on our left and the ocean and mountains on our right. It was lovely as the English would say!

The conservation center was very awesome because we got to see so many animals up close!

There is NO zoom going on in this picture, we were 5 feet from these bears.

As you can see on the ground they walk back and forth, back and forth along that fence line (probably looking for the weakest link in the fence to pounce on!) so they were very close to us. There was another fence so you couldn't put your hand through their fence...bad idea right there!

We LOVED the bears. The funny thing is the toddlers could care less about them and were more interested in the mud behind us!

This sweet little bald eagle got shot in the wing so he only has one wing

Angie and I TOTALLY petted this moose!! So cool!
There was also a porcupine living in a little house like a dog house, lots of musk ox, elk, owls, and even more bears.
I loved hanging out with the girls, we went to Arby's on the way home and just talked for around an hour, so fun!

Unfortunately, the boys didn't meet the weekly goal and were just a few sales off so we didn't get to go to dinner on vivint. But, Skyler and I still wanted to celebrate his sale so we went with Dan, Dall, and Oak to Red Robin which was a fun finish to the week.

After church we met up with our friends that live at The Club with us (all those single; no children couples, haha) and we played some kickball at a softball field we found while running on a trail the other day. It was such a blast and we all had fun spending time with each other. We had FHE (family home evening) that night with the same group with a great lesson and games and games of Murderer in the Dark. Three words: HIL...AR...IOUS!
Love you all!
Hil and Sky
